William “Bill” McKay, born in 1969, is a seasoned keyboardist, singer, songwriter, bandleader, and producer whose career spans decades and genres. After studying world music at Colorado College, he joined Band Du Jour and toured internationally, sharing stages with Phish and Blues Traveler. In 1995, he became the lead singer and keyboardist for the Derek Trucks Band, performing with Southern rock legends like Gregg Allman and Warren Haynes. He later returned to Colorado, joining jamgrass pioneers Leftover Salmon for a decade while also leading the Bill McKay Band and collaborating widely across musical styles.

A prolific performer, Bill has worked with groups like Coral Creek, the McKay Brothers (with his brother John), and more recently Steely Dead and the Very Jerry Band, celebrating the music of Steely Dan, the Grateful Dead, and Jerry Garcia. He also performs with The Other Brothers, honoring the Allman Brothers Band. Based in Colorado for over 30 years, Bill remains deeply rooted in its vibrant music scene, continuing to create and perform with passion and versatility.
